The British Council supports the joint research of the Kazakh National University (KazNU) and the University of Nottingham on climate change and land degradation in Kazakhstan that is expected to help indicate early signs of extreme weather change and reduce its negative impact. The research on this topic is conducted in Kazakhstan for the first time.
In the course of the research the team consisting of representatives of KazNU and the University of Nottingham will analyse meteorological data collected from all regions of Kazakhstan to reveal trends in climate changes associated with natural disasters and impact of these changes on social issues.
The partnership between the University of Nottingham and KazNU was established in 2008 as part of the British Council project International Strategic Partnerships in Research and Education (INSPIRE). INSPIRE project is aimed at strengthening the academic and research partnerships between the UK and Kazakhstan through developing institutional links, awarding exploratory grants, supporting young researchers, providing the dialogue between policy makers and increasing leadership capacity of representatives of the education sphere.
