Competition for the Day of European Languages

Which European foreign language is your favourite one?

Which words do you like most in this language?

Which stories do you associate these words with?

The topic of the competition “My favourite Five words” should consider foreign languages, promote the interest in them and reflect the diverse sounds of languages as well as the beauty of the languages.

What you need to do

Using a camera or mobile phone make a film about your favourite five foreign words (English, German, French) following the criteria below:

•length 5 minutes maximum

•format wmv (size 320 x 200), size of the video should not exceed 10 MB, to make it possible to send it via e-mail to: susanne.becker@almaty.goethe.org

or

•format avi or flv, size 300 MB maximum, send via Sendspace.com (www.sendspace.com) to: susanne.becker@almaty.goethe.org

•Along with your film, send your full name and surname, postal address, e-mail address, and telephone number (local and mobile)

Participants

The competition is open to young, adults from Kazakhstan (age from 18 to 35), who can speak at least one foreign language. The contest starts from May 11, 2011 and the deadline for submission of films is September 20, 2011.

Please send your video and contact details to the following e-mail: susanne.becker@almaty.goethe.org . Also, before the deadline for acceptance of films, you can send your work on CD or USB-card to Goethe-Institut (050040 Almaty, Jandosov Str. 2, Goethe-Institut in Almaty, Ms. Susanne Becker.)

Voting

After the deadline, films will be posted on EUNIC Almaty channel on Youtube. If you want to vote for a film, you can send an e-mail to anna.melnik@almaty.goethe.org – everyone can vote only once.

Winners and Prizes

Winners will be announced on September 25, 2011, at CAFE.Europa. At the languages festival the best films will be shown to the audience. The following prizes will be awarded:

1. prize: Netbook

2. prize: video camera

3. prize: iPod

Jury

The jury of the competition are representatives of the following cultural institutes: Alliance Francaise, British Council, Goethe-Institut in Almaty.

The following criteria will be evaluated:

•original content

•the main idea of the film

•creativity

•artistic components
