British Council ran its second ‘Enterprise Challenge’ as part of its Skills for Employability project in Astana

British Council ran its second ‘Enterprise Challenge’ as part of its Skills for Employability project in Astana in collaboration with the Executive Board of Technical and Vocational Education and the Education Department of Astana.

The Enterprise Challenge was designed for students aged 16-21 and is open to all Technical Education and Vocational Education and Training (TEVT) institutions of Astana. Enterprise Challenge focuses on inspiring young students to embrace innovation, creativity, team building, communication and planning skills.

The Enterprise Challenge celebrated during the Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) from 16-20 November 2009.

The team of the College of Transport and Communication Academy won the Challenge and was awarded with a grant of KZT 250,000 - to work on their project.

The winning team then participated in the regional Challenge along with winning teams from Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh. Ideas of each team were presented in 5 minutes videos for public viewing and voting. And we are delighted that it is the team of the College of Transport and Communication Academy who won the Regional Challenge!

The prize is a one week visit to Bradford College in the North of England and London in May 2010, to take part in an eye opening, active and fun programme which highlights the best of UK entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation. It will allow the team to work together again to research, appraise and present their findings on what being entrepreneurial is all about. There will be opportunities for students to see innovation and creativity in action in the UK and to become an ambassador for “entrepreneurial spirit” back in Kazakhstan.

The winning team of the College of Transport and Communication Academy names are: Natalya Minenko, Raissa Dolganova, Sultan Batyshev, Damir Berikkazinov, Tolegen Moinakov and the College Deputy Principal, Zhanna Khassenova. View their video.

Everyone who voted for the wining team entered into a prize draw and the lucky person from each country whose name was drawn won an iPod. The lucky voter from Kazakhstan is Altynai Zkriyanova from Astana!
