On 7 June 2010 Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi hosted an international seminar “New Trends in the English Language Teaching Methodology” devoted to 65th Victory Day anniversary of the Second World War.
The 150 participants were English teachers from 9 universities in Almaty including staff from the host university, KazNTU named after K. Satpaev, KazNPU named after Abai, Technological University, National Agrarian University, Zhurgenev’s University, Academy of Transport and Communication and Women’s Pedagogical University.
The seminar was held in the Centre for Applied Linguistics and Cross-Cultural Communication and the Director of the Centre Ms Zh.T. Bimagambetova opened the seminar with a welcoming speech and presentation of English Language Teaching in Kazakhstan.
After a short welcoming speech Brian Maguire, British Council ELT Consultant and Projects Manager Ardak Bekturova made a presentation on the teaching and learning materials developed by the British Council for teachers and learners of English worldwide.

The British Council presenters were followed by Lindsay Clandfield, who presented innovative ways of applying ELT methodology based on his «Global» textbook.
Achievements of KazNU in the field of international cooperation were exhibited by students after the award ceremony.
