The British Council in Kazakhstan, in partnership with the “National Centre of State Science and Technology Evaluation (NCSSTE)”, part of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, wishes to invite UK higher education institutions to participate in a contact workshop to be held in Kazakhstan (Almaty or Astana) on 5 and 6 April 2013.
The British Council will be able to subsidize up to 15 places at the workshop.
The purpose of the workshop is to enable senior researchers from the UK and Kazakhstan to make contact with each other and explore opportunities for potential research partnerships in the following priority areas identified by the British Council and the NCSSTE:
1. Energy 1.1 Heat and electrical power engineering (improvement of the efficiency of existing thermal power plants in Kazakhstan); 1.2 Nuclear and hydrogen power engineering; 1.3 Renewable energy sources (wind and hydropower engineering, biofuels and photovoltaics); 1.4 The influence of the energy sector on the environment.
2. Deep processing of raw materials and products 2.1 Mining technologies; 2.2 Natural and technogenic raw materials processing technologies; 2.3 Technologies for the creation of new materials; 2.4 Product-processing technologies
3. Information and telecommunication technologies 3.1 Information technologies; 3.2 Software and technical complexes and systems; 3.3 Intelligent systems and technologies; 3.4 Geo-information systems and technologies; 3.5 Telecommunication systems and technologies
Objectives of the Contact Workshop
•To bring together senior researchers from the UK and Kazakhstan •To gain a greater understanding of each others’ systems •To share interests and experience in identified priority areas and explore opportunities for sustainable research partnerships.
Call for Expression of Interest
Expressions of Interest to participate in the Contact Workshop should be sent to info@kz.britishcouncil.org.
The deadline for the receipt of Expression of Interest forms is midnight (UK time) on 25 February 2013.
Applicants will be notified of the results by email by 1 March 2013.
Workshop participants must be able to travel to Kazakhstan for the period of 4 April to 7 April 2013.
