Cook Show Contest

Title: “Food"

Language level of students: elementary
Age group: 8-10
Time: 20-30 minutes
Skills / aspects focus: to develop vocabulary, listening, grammar and speaking skills.
Vocabulary: names of ingredients of food.
Grammar:  structure I have …;  I like…for …; I like to eat/ to drink/ for…
Resources and materials: pictures of food, two sets with names of food (stickers), two sheets of paper with titles of meals for making menu.

PROCEDURE

Pre-activity
Students make a circle, teacher gives cards to everybody. The teacher asks them. What do you have? Everybody answers I have…

Activity.

  1. The teacher suggests playing the game “ What do you prefer?” Students get in line, the teacher shows two pictures of food. Students choose a kind of food which they like to eat and step at the side where their favorite food is, for example: tomato or cucumber; meat or fish; water -melon or melon; tea or coffee.
  2. Students are divided into two groups. Then the teacher announces about the Cook Show Contest and gives the task for groups to make a menu. Students should use ingredients from the sets, make a report or small presentation of their menus.  

Post-activity
Praise the students and say that they are great cooks and nice  helpers for their mums and grannies.
