Peacekeeping English Orange lozenge left

The British Council manages a programme of Peacekeeping English Projects (PEPs) on behalf of the UK Foreign Office, Ministry of Defence and Department for International Development.

Our objective is to strengthen the teaching, learning and testing of English in the Kazakhstani and Kyrgyz Armed Forces in order to extend these countries role in peacekeeping operations.

Central strategic theme – development of sustainable systems for English Language Training for the military, relating to the needs of Peacekeepers on UN Peacekeeping Missions and personnel seconded to NATO activities.

HIGHER MILITARY EDUCATION ESTABLISHMENTS

We support MoD English instructors at several centres, including the Military Academies in Almaty and Bishkek, the Defence Institute of Foreign Languages in Almaty, the NCO Academy in Schuchinsk.
 SELF ACCESS CENTRES
We have also set up a network of 5 Military English self-access centres across the two countries. Learners can access specialised English language materials with the support of a Self Access Manager.
TEACHER TRAINING

Over 200 teachers of English from military institutes across Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have received regular training via international training events; conferences; local training; membership of professional associations; international exams certificates.
 TESTING
Working with the Kazakstani and Kyrgyz Ministry of Defence to conduct testing using STANAG 6001 specifications.
SPECIALIST COURSES

Supporting intensive English courses for officers in main military institutes and organising and delivering pre-deployment language training for peacekeepers, professional language training for civilian employees of the Kazakhstan MoD. This training is taking place in KAZBRIG in Kapchagai.
