EUNIC
EUNIC (European Union National Institutes for Culture)

EUNIC is a network of international cultural relations institutes of the member states of the European Union. Formed in 2006, it has over 30 members from 26 countries. EUNIC members work in over 150 countries with over 2,000 branches worldwide. They work in the arts, youth, education, intercultural dialogue and development sectors.

EUNIC Almaty was established by the Alliance Française Almaty, British Council, Comitato “Dante Alighieri” Almaty, Goethe Institute Almaty and Consulate General of the Republic of Hungary in May 2011.

The EUNIC network is:

  • An active network: encouraging members to implement shared projects
  • A learning network: sharing ideas and practices between members
  • A partnering network: working with partners including the European Commission, the Council of Europe and partners around the world
  • An advocacy network: raising the awareness and effectiveness of building cultural relations between people worldwide

EUNIC is managed by an annual meeting of the heads of its members organisations. They elect from among themselves a president. The current President of EUNIC Almaty is Barbara Fraenkel-Thonet, Director of Goethe-Institut in Kazakhstan.
