A Justice Sector Coordination Office has been created within the Ministry of Justice responsible for coordinating sectoral policy, planning, budgeting and operationalisation of the Strategy. The Office has since June 2007 been headed by a permanent civil servant - the Justice Sector Coordinator - who will be supported by a full time internationally recruited economist. Additional staff will be recruited to the Office if required - on either a short term or long term basis to fulfil specific functions. Specific roles of the Office include:
-Driving forward on a day to day basis the reform agenda set out in this Strategy;
-Ensuring that complex reforms in different institutions are effectively linked, sequenced, managed, resourced and led, and in particular that issues of “joined-up justice” are properly addressed;
-Providing support to justice sector institutions in the implementation of the institutional strategic plans, especially with regard to organisational development, change management, performance management, policy, and planning;
-Supporting justice sector institutions in the budgeting process, in particular to ensure a joined up approach to development expenditure;
-Ensuring timely and appropriate monitoring and evaluation of strategic performance, and ensure that this performance is communicated to stakeholders; and
-Providing a secretarial function for the Leadership Group and the TWG, ensuring that they have all necessary information available to support their work.
