We have three centres in Lisbon - central Lisbon, Miraflores and Parede.
Classes are usually three hours per week, either twice a week for one and a half hours a lesson or once a week for three hours.
We have three main terms a year, each running for ten weeks. The first term begins in September
We offer secondary courses at a range of levels, from beginners to advanced.
Our courses are based on thematic modules with clearly defined learning objectives. The topics are contemporary and relevant to our pupils’ ages, lives and interests.
Our pupils work with realistic, meaningful language and complete tasks appropriate to their level. For example, they may design and use a class survey and then write a report, or research a topic and give a presentation to their classmates.
We aim to help pupils feel comfortable expressing themselves in English and to improve their ability to communicate effectively.
We believe lessons should be pupil-centred and involve using natural language to explore topics that are real and meaningful for young teenagers.
Our pupils work in groups, pairs, or by themselves, depending on the requirements of the task.
Our pupils use a variety of resources, including IT, films and literature and not just a course book to help them develop their English language skills.
Our secondary levels follow the CEF (Common European Framework) which describes in detail what pupils need to learn and be able to do at various levels in order to use a language to communicate.
Our pupils progress at their own rate and are assessed by their teacher in a number of ways throughout the course, including individual counselling and assessment of tasks undertaken in class.
Our pupils are encouraged to take part in their own self-assessment and to work with their teacher in establishing clear learning goals for the future.
We send reports on the pupil’s progress to parents twice during the year and also invite parents in to discuss their child’s learning.
Younger secondary students (up to 12 years old) have the opportunity to take the University of Cambridge English language tests, Starters, Movers and Flyers (YLE). Older pupils can enter for the Key English Test (KET), Preliminary English Test (PET), First Certificate in English (FCE) and Certificate in Advanced English (CAE).More information on our examinations pages.

Over 300 young students aged between 8 -14 years of age were recently invited to take part in the annual Reading Challenge: The Big, Wild Read in Parede BC. Over 1,080 books were borrowed from the library by students who had to read 6 books in order to complete their “Challenge” and receive a medal and certificate. The presentation took place in the garden of the British Council, Parede attended by students, parents and teachers. All the children thoroughly enjoyed the reading challenge and said that they would like to take part in the next one. Parents commented that they thought this was a very good way to help develop a life long appreciation and enjoyment of reading as well as helping their children’s language skills.
