There is a story on LearnEnglish Kids called 'My Dad'. In this story Lottie, a ten year old girl, describes her dad. She describes what he looks like, what he does in a typical day, and how he helps her. You can find the story here: http://www.britishcouncil.org/kids-stories-my-dad
Read and listen to the story with your child. Click on the 'phone' buttons to move forward with the story. Help your child to understand each description. Talk about the pictures (in your own language if you like) and this will help your child to understand the text. As you read the story, talk about the text too to help your child engage with the story (Does your dad do that? Who does that for you?).
When you have finished the story, ask your child what information they learned in this story (dad's name, age and what he looks like; dad's job; what he does in the morning, afternoon and evening; what he does at the weekend; what he likes doing).
Now ask your child to talk or write about a member of your family. It doesn't have to be dad! It could be an aunt, an uncle or a grandparent. Your child should talk about name, age, what the person looks like, their job, what the person does during the day and at weekends.
Help your child to write a story about the chosen family member. It would be great to have photos too, perhaps taken with a phone like Lottie, or with a camera. You could make a book!
