Romantic David Lean films in the holiday season
Starting December 18th, the Amsterdam Filmmuseum presents a film programme dedicated to one of the greatest British directors of all time: Sir David Lean. The program features five romantic Lean films, selected especially to suit the Christmas season. A newly restored version of 1945 classic Brief Encounter and epic Doctor Zhivago (1965) are among the films shown. For showtimes visit the Filmmuseum website.

DARWIN NOW
Darwin Now celebrates the lasting impact that Darwin's ideas about evolution, and his approach to the understanding of the natural world, have on our lives. Check the Darwin Now website for more information.

Partnership Programme in Science
Are you an early-stage postdoc researcher? Apply for our Partnership Programme in Science! The British Council co-funds and administers a series of research partnership programmes linking UK-based scientists with their opposite numbers in key countries across Europe. Deadline for applications is 16 March 2009 for the Netherlands programme and 21 March 2009 for the Belgium programme.

International Radio Playwriting Competition
BBC World Service and the British Council launch an international radio playwriting competition. There are two categories: one for writers with English as their first language and one for writers with English as their second language. Deadline for submission is 31 March 2009. APELDOORN CONFERENCE
Belfast hosted a major bilateral conference between the UK and the Netherlands on 12, 13 & 14 October  2008.
Citizenship and Communities: Identity and State in the 21st Century
The Conference brought together young leaders from the UK and the Netherlands to address the themes of identity, citizenship and communities, and to encourage them to commit to taking positive action within their own societies.

INDIE
After a well deserved summer break, the Belgian and Dutch schools participating in our Inclusion and Diversity in Education project have started this autumn with a second Young Leaders training session involving new Young Leaders from the same schools. Read the reports on the training sessions which took place in Arnhem and in Genk. The next Young Leaders training session will take place from 24 to 26 November in Arnhem.

EUNIC presents “Writing Europe – II. Cities of exile”
From September 2008 to February 2009 (see calendar for all dates)
With regard to the theme of Amsterdam Capital Book City, Open Book, "Writing Europe - II. Cities of Exile" proposes to look into the phenomenon of exile literature in the (recent) European past and the present.
