Ibrahim Mohammed has an MA in International Affairs and Diplomacy from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria and a BA in English Language from Usman Fodio University, Nigeria. He is due to defend his MA TESOL thesis. He is currently an EFL Instructor at Taibah University, Madinah.
Storybooks are fictional depiction of real societies. They bring to the classroom a socio-cultural context that allows the learner to imbibe language. They expose readers to cultural identities and create a communicative environment. This presentation proposes a model (GRAWRISLIST) where all the components of language are generated from storybooks and taught independently.
Waleed Hassan is a Senior Teacher at Al Anjal International School. He has been an IGCSE Coordinator, a member of CITA steering committee, and Head of the Debating Society. He has also been a Head of the English Department, and a trainer at an International Conference of Translation.
The workshop aims to demonstrate how the teacher’s role in mixed-ability classroom should be one of mentor and coach, not instructor. Differentiated instructions is about quality, not quantity.
Mohammed Redwan has over 8 years of experience in teaching English in Egypt, KSA, and the UK. He holds a B.A. in English Arts and Education and a CELTA. He is currently completing his master’s at the University of Leicester, UK. He is mainly interested in CLT and classroom management.
Attendees of this workshop will be acquainted with some of the TEOFL iBT independent writing problems most Saudi students experience. Teacher intervention will also be discussed. The audience will be encouraged to think critically about that intervention and how they can adapt it to tackle problems their own students have.
The workshops are suitable for teachers at intermediate and secondary school level.
