British Council Language Assistants

We work together with our partner organisations overseas to provide opportunities for young people to work as language assistants both in the UK and 17 countries around the world. We aim to improve both the language ability of the assistants and students in addition to expanding their cultural awareness.

If you are interested in becoming an English Language Assistant abroad, or a French, German, Spanish, Italian or Chinese assistant in the UK, or you are working in a UK school and want to find out more about employing an assistant, this is the place to start.

In 2008-2009 we sent nearly 2,100 English Language Assistants overseas and hosted nearly 2,970 Foreign Language Assistants in the UK. Take a more detailed look at our statistics.
