UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office Chevening Scholarship Scheme 2009-2010

The Chevening Scholarship Scheme offers the chance for successful candidates to undertake fully-funded study at a university in the United Kingdom.  It is aimed at highly motivated, extremely capable individuals who have already made an impact in their chosen career.  It is funded by the United Kingdom’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office and administered by the British Council.

Applications for the Chevening Scholarship scheme for the academic year 2009-2010 are now being accepted (opening and closing dates are shown below).  Candidates are invited to apply for a 12-month full-time Masters degree at a UK university.

Competition for Chevening scholarships is strong. A typical successful applicant would be:

A graduate with proven academic skills
Someone with three or more years’ work experience
Able to show at interview that they possess the personal qualities to benefit from and scholarship
Someone with very good written and spoken English skills. Most UK higher education institutions require a minimum 6.5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) for admission onto postgraduate courses

We aim wherever possible for an equal number of female and male scholars.

The application procedure and selection of scholars is open and transparent.
