New collection of art works in the British Council

Some powerful, eye-catching and playful new works have arrived at our Admiralty centre. On entering the building, your gaze will be caught by the illuminating and psychedelic light installation, HK Fesdella which was specially-created for this space by London-based artist David Batchelor. Just beside the coffee shop on the first floor, you will find some background information on David Batchelor's works as well as Wizard, Justine Smith's colourful and charming papier mâché dog; and around our premises, you can see Henry Moore's Mother and Child, Patrick Caulfield's the Hermit, Mark Wallinger's brown (Mr J R Brown), Michael Craig-Martin's Picturing: Iron, Watch, Pliers, Safety Pin and prints by John Riddy.

Since the late 1930s, the British Council has been collecting works of art, craft and design to promote the best of British artists. Today that collection captures an enthralling mix of contemporary pieces which showcase at British Council offices all over the world.

UK wildlife photographer and past President of the Royal Photographic Society, Heather Angel, will visit the British Council in Hong Kong this month to introduce her latest and most ambitious book, Green China. Angel, who has been coming to China since 1984 to document its abundant natural diversity, made seven month-long trips, capturing the nation's forests, wetlands and coastlines; she passed through verdant bamboo plantations, traversed scorching deserts and captured wildlife as varied as the endangered snub-nosed monkey, the giant panda, the Chinese sturgeon and the giant salamander. She will talk about her experiences and the stories behind the photographs; a book signing will follow this event. Green China with Heather Angel is co-organised by the British Council and the Royal Geographical Society – Hong Kong.
