Form 3 student Joyce Ho is the winner of the British Council's first Summer Programme English Slogan Competition. Her slogan "English is Your Gold Medal" beat the other entries and won her a free British Council English course!
Joyce described how she came up with the slogan, "The theme of the slogan is to highlight the importance of learning better English. For me, English is something very important in my life. It is as important as an athlete winning a game and striving for a gold medal, which gave me the idea for the slogan. So, learning better English would be the same as wearing a gold medal - it would give me a lot of pride and confidence!"
And the slogan matches the Olympic spirit perfectly!
Joyce has always been interested in participating in writing competitions. "I'm always looking to enter all sorts of writing competitions, but I particularly like slogan competitions because it is easier for me to create slogans. But this is the first and only time that I've won a prize - and it's the First Prize too!"
Joyce will start her free English course on 6 August in the British Council's Shatin teaching branch. She will join the second phrase of our Summer Programme which is 3 classes a week for a month.
"I hope I will be able to have more opportunities to speak to my native English teacher in class. I really hope that I can speak better English and communicate more fluently with in English. I'm really excited about taking a class at the British Council!"
Simon Hunt, Director English Learning Services said, "British Council aims to make the learning of English fun and interactive. The Slogan Competition is a way to involve the public to use English creatively".
Director English Language Services Simon Hunt presented a certificate and a student card to Joyce Ho, winner of the British Council English Slogan Competition. Mrs Ho, Joyce's mother, also joined celebration.
