International English Language Testing System
Test and develop your English skills.
IELTS is the way to prove your English language skills and open doors to international opportunities. Whether you want to migrate, study or practice your profession in the UK or any English-speaking country, IELTS is vital in preparing you for your journey.

Where is IELTS recognised?
IELTS is trusted and recognised by universities and institutions in the UK and by immigration authorities and government departments in almost all English speaking countries globally. Find more information on where IELTS is recognised.

Which IELTS should you take?
IELTS is available in two modules – Academic and General Training.

The Academic - Reading and Writing modules assess whether you are ready to study or train in the medium of English at an undergraduate or postgraduate level. Admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses is based on the results of these modules.

The General Training - Reading and Writing modules are not designed to test the full range of language skills required for academic purposes. They however emphasise basic survival skills in a social and educational context. General Training is suitable if you are going to an English speaking country for immigration purposes; to complete your secondary education, undertake work experience or non-degree training programmes. This module is not offered at all test centres.

Please note it is the responsibility of the candidate to inform our Examinations Services whether they wish to take the Academic or General Training Modules. The Examinations Services is not responsible for providing this information.
