Applications for The Said Foundation Scholarships for the year 2009/2010 are now open. Deadline is 31 January 2009.

The Said Foundation offers a number of partial or, exceptionally, full-cost scholarships annually. It also offers joint scholarships with the British Commonwealth Office (FCO) as well as with some selected universities in the UK.

Said Foundation scholarships

The Said Foundation is a charity based in the UK. One of its aims is to promote education and development in the Middle East. To this end, the Foundation offers a number of partial or, exceptionally, full-cost scholarships annually to enable graduates to pursue postgraduate courses and other training in subjects to be considered on their merits at universities or other institutions in the United Kingdom. The scholarships are open to citizens of certain member states of the Arab League and are tenable for up to one year. The Foundation does not fund PhD or undergraduate studies.

How to apply

Application forms along with the guidance notes can be collected from the British Council reception desk or can be downloaded from the Said Foundation website.

If you wish to apply for a scholarship, please follow the following:

Selection Criteria

Applicants should fulfil the following requirements

  1. have a good first degree
  2. provide evidence of your proficiency in English language-if available
  3. be under forty years of age
  4. be Iraqi, Jordanian, Lebanese, Palestinian or Syrian and be resident in the Middle East
  5. demonstrate that your chosen course of study will be of use to your home country or the Middle East region
  6. have at least two years' work experience
  7. apply for a place on a course in the UK
  8. sign a binding undertaking to apply the skills they have gained in one of the foundation's target countries.

The Foundation has partnership schemes with the universities listed below. You MUST apply to these universities if they have courses meeting your needs.

Said Foundation:-Oxford/Cambridge University scholarships

The Foundation is able to offer full and partial scholarships for Masters Courses at Oxford and Cambridge Universities. Please read the guidance notes for Oxford and Cambridge applicants available from the British Council or Said Foundation Websites.

Application forms for Oxford and Cambridge scholarships are available from the university websites above.

The deadline for Oxford applications is 23 January for most courses but please check the Oxford University prospectus. The deadline for Cambridge applications is 31 January. Completed forms should be sent directly to these universities on their addresses below.
