The scholarships aim to provide opportunities for independent postgraduate study in the United Kingdom for students who are engaged in or intending to pursue postgraduate work in their own country and who have demonstrated both academic excellence and the potential to become leaders, decision-makers and opinion formers in their own country. Subject to satisfactory progress, the scholarships lead to the award of a Masters degree.

FCO CHEVENING/OSI/EDINBURUGH

Deadline for submitting completed applications was the 2nd of February 2010

Scholarships are available for one-year taught Master’s programmes: MSc in Nationalism Studies, MSc in Policy Studies, MSc by Research in Political Theory, MSc in Social Research, MSc in Comparative Public Policy, MSc in Social Anthropology, MSc in Global Health and Public Policy, MSc in Health Inequalities and Public Policy, and MSc in Health Systems and Public Policy.

The scheme does not fund PhD or undergraduate studies.

What is covered

Each scholarship provides twelve months’ tuition fees at the University of Edinburgh, a stipend to cover living costs (for one person only) and return air travel from the scholar’s home country

Selection criteria

The scholarships are open to applicants from Georgia, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Palestine (Palestinian Arab Citizens of Israel are eligible to apply) and Syria.

Applicants will normally be expected to:

  • be nationals of, and normally resident in, the selected country during the academic year in which they apply for the award ; applicants who are temporarily out of the country (for a total period of less than three consecutive months) may be treated as being resident
  • have an excellent English language
  • return to their home country at the end of their scholarship period to continue their studies/ work there

There is no age limit for applicants and a preference will go towards applicants who have not previously studied outside of their home country.

FCO CHEVENING/OSI/ESSEX

Deadline for submitting completed applications was the 18th of January 2010

The Open Society Institute, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the University of Essex scholarships enable qualified students to pursue taught postgraduate programmes within the Human Rights Centre of the University of Essex.

The scheme does not fund PhD or undergraduate studies.

What is covered

Each award will cover the payment of academic tuition fees, exam fees, a monthly allowance for single student living expenses, and other agreed allowances (including one return economy airfare).

P.S. please note that you need to submit:

  • 2 different academic references
  • 4 copies of the applications form (one original and three copies) along with the supporting documents.
  • Professional references in addition to the academic ones, which is optional.

Selection criteria

  1. You should be a national of, and normally resident in, Jordan at the time of applying for the award. If you are temporarily out of the country at the time of application (for a total period of less than three consecutive months) you may be treated as being a resident of Jordan
  2. You should already hold (or expect to hold by the time of taking up the award) a relevant degree equivalent to an upper second, from a UK university
  3. There is no age limit for applying to the scholarship
  4. Successful candidates will be required to sit for the IELTS Exam and the minimum required score is 7.0

FCO CHEVENING/OSI/NOTTINGHAM

Deadline for submitting completed applications was 2nd of January 2010

The University of Nottingham offers scholarships for students from Indonesia, Jordan and Syria registering on the following master's degrees:

  • LLM in Human Rights Law
  • MA in Politics and Social Policy
  • MA in Politics and Critical Theory
  • MA in Comparative Politics
  • MA in International Relations
  • MA in Social and Global Justice
  • MA in European and Global Politics
  • MA in International Security and Terrorism

The scheme does not fund PhD or undergraduate studies.

What is covered

Each scholarship provides 12 months’ tuition fees at the University of Nottingham, a stipend to cover living expenses (for one person only) and return air travel from the scholar’s home country.

Selection criteria

The scheme welcomes your application form if you can meet the following criteria:

  • you should normally be a national of, and resident in, the selected countries
  • already hold (or expect to hold by the time of taking up the award) a degree equivalent to an upper-second from a UK university
  • be between 23 and 35 years of age

Preference will be given to students who have NOT spent a full academic year or more studying in a higher educational institution in the west.

Suitability for the above three scholarships to demonstrate both academic excellence and the potential to become leaders, decision-makers and opinion formers in their own country

Cosponsors

OSI is happy to consider you for any of the above three scholarships if you have obtained partial funding from other organisations, your employer or have funds available from personal sources.
