More than a library

Do you need quick and easy access up-to-date and relevant information? Then why not become a member of our Knowledge and Information Services (KIS) and enjoy access to books and videos, newspapers, magazines and journals, the internet, and interactive multimedia, all through our centre in Amman

What are the Knowledge and Information Services (KIS)?

Our Knowledge and Information Services are more than a library, it is the place where you can find the adequate services and resources to improve your English learning and teaching skills, your management skills, as well as experience, discover and enjoy UK today using a leading edge technology.

What’s available

The Knowledge and Information subscribes to over twenty British periodicals and newspapers. The collection includes the latest books on a range of subjects including management, information technology, English language and literature, fiction and general topics. There are about 1000 home videos which are suitable for family entertainment, a wide range of DVDs, audiocassettes are also available along with live television news from BBC and free internet access. As part of your membership, you will also have access to some electronis resources for your study or research.

As part of our Knowledge and Learning objectives of providing opportunities for self development and lifelong learning, we produce our bi annual publication targeting students and professionals through Skills+ magazine.

This magazine can help you develop your life and career. If you are keen on learning new skills and better ways of doing things then you should find the articles on better memory, making effective presentations and enhancing your career very interesting.

Become a member

Our library is the only place in Jordan where you can find extensive information about all aspects of contemporary life in the UK.

To join the library all you need to do is to fill in the application form and see our customer service staff with some identification and evidence of a valid mailing address and email

Type Fees
Adults JOD 25.000
Students, students studying in our centre and teachers JOD 10.000
Replacement for a lost card JOD 3.000

What benefits members get?

Borrowing: you can borrow up to six items (books, magazines and journals) plus two videos/DVDs at a time for a period of two weeks.

Renewals: you can renew items on loan to you for a further period unless another member has reserved them. You need to bring the items along with your membership card to have the items re-issued.

Reservation: you can reserve up to two items, with the exception of reference materials, at the issue desk. The items reserved will be kept for you to collect for a period of two weeks after their return. Check our online library catalogue

Renewal of Membership

The date of expiry is stamped on the library membership card. Members are to renew their cards a year from the expiry date to continue enjoying our services.

For renewals, please bring the library membership card, 2 photographs and the relevant renewal fee.

Activities we run

The British Council Knowledge and Information Services is organising many different activities in partnership with Ministry of Education and private schools and many more to help young professionals and students discover the pleasure and excitement of reading through Reading Challenge project, story telling sessions during the summer and engage learners and professionals in multi video-conference discussions on the latest ideas and issues concerning science and society with leading specialists in the UK through Café Scientifique.
