English for teachers

Teaching is a demanding career. In the English Language Zone we aim to support teachers by providing two major streams of resources both of which are available online and as paper based resources. The first stream of resource materials offer help with both personal and professional development. The second stream offers lesson planning and lesson implementation resources that can be adapted to suit your curriculum.

Language Assistant
This site is for British Council language assistants but there's lots here for any teacher of English. It's updated weekly from September to May with tips, materials and links to help you with your teaching, plus a discussion group to share teaching ideas.

Teach English
Non-native speaking teachers of English will find many aspects of this BBC and British Council sponsored website very useful. It contains practical resources, theoretical ideas, and teaching techniques as well as a forum to exchange thoughts and materials.

In the English Language Zone you can participate in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) activities which will keep you up-to-date with the latest EFL ideas. It also provides teaching journals and magazines to keep you abreast of the latest trends in teaching. Why not browse the internet and discover what publishers have to offer free of charge? Or access many of the links and information on linguistics, teacher training courses, EFL organisations and discussion lists for teaching professionals, or join the online community of EFL teachers: the English Language Teachers Contact Scheme (ELTeCS).
