What is our range of schools Examinations?

The British Council provides you access to international credible qualifications to support your school programs through out the 12 schooling years offered Pearson Edexcel and Cambridge International Examinations (CIE). These programmes are offered in more than 40 schools in Jordan.

Cambridge Primary (CP)
The Cambridge International Primary Programme gives schools a framework to develop Mathematics, English and Science skills and knowledge in young children. The Primary Programme provides guidance for curriculum development and classroom teaching and learning, and allows teachers to assess children’s learning as they progress.

Cambridge Secondary (CS)
The Cambridge Lower Secondary Programme is a framework for educational success for students approximately 11-14 years old. It builds on the primary stage, and develops children’s knowledge and skills in Mathematics, English and Science. Lower Secondary also offers schools a means of tracking student progress through the lower secondary phase, with an integrated package of teaching, learning and assessment materials.

Checkpoint
A unique diagnostic testing service and an invaluable tool for schools and colleges, it enables access to standardised tests that provide feedback on a student’s strengths and weaknesses in key curriculum areas. Feedback of this kind is an invaluable source of information for schools and colleges to assess students as well as teachers performances.This exam is available at CP and CS Level .

IGCSE/O-Level (CIE and Pearson Edexcel)
The ordinary level is the first stage in preparing the requirements for the equivalency with the Jordanian Tawjihi. Its an international curriculum that develops students' skills in creative thinking, enquiry and problem solving, and gives them excellent preparation for the next stage in their education.  Schools can offer any combination of subjects. Each subject is certificated separately. Over 100 subjects are available, offering a variety of routes for learners of different abilities

A-Level (CIE and Pearson Edexcel)
The advanced level is the final stage in achieving the equivalency requirements and is the first stage towards the university education. It is offered over 2 - 6 modules for each subject to enable student to better spread their efforts and knowledge.

Why take GCE/IGCSE/GCSE examinations?

International programme equivalent to Jordanian Tawjihi certificate
Equivalency available in three streams, Scientific stream, Literary stream and recently the Hotel Management stream
Acknowledged and accepted in Jordanian and International universities (on Competitive basis)
IGCSE/GCE/GCSE students have a quota for acceptance in the Jordanian universities
All exams are supervised by the Ministry of Education and the British Council
Exams are offered and marked by two British examining boards, Pearson Edexcel and CIE
Students can choose from a very wide variety of subjects at both the Ordinary and the Advanced levels
Subjects are offered in more than one paper which give the chance for students to distribute their efforts
Students can re-sit papers or subjects to improve their results
The teaching system of the IGCSE/GCE/GCSE programme builds skills and develops students’ abilities and personalities
Students with special needs are provided with the appropriate kind of arrangements.

How do we maintain the quality of the programme?

  • The quality of the programme is maintained by the triple agreement between the Ministry of Education, the British Council and the two UK examining boards CIE and Pearson Edexcel
  • To accredit a new school, it should be inspected and approved by the two examining boards, British Council and the Ministry of Education
  • The programme is continuously monitored and developed by the British government
  • Schools are inspected at least once every two years
  • Examination sessions are inspected regularly by the Examining boards and Ministry of Education
  • Teachers receive on going annual training in most subjects required by schools.

How can the program prepare you for university education?

A-Level students are very well prepared for university education. A-levels are designed as pre-university courses and in many cases are considered equivalent to first year university courses.

You are advised to select the AS/A-level subjects related to the field you are interested in. If you intend to study in the UK, you have to check the requirements of the particular university you are applying for. Each university requires different combinations of subjects.
