GCE/IGCSE/GCSE Examinations

What are these examinations?

General Certificate of Education and the International General Certificate of Secondary Education are school-leaving certificates in Britain comparable to the Tawjihi in Jordan. These certificates are offered by Edexcel International Foundation and Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) and they have international credibility as educational qualifications. This programme is offered in more than 29 schools in Jordan.

Why take GCE/IGCSE/GCSE examinations?

International programme equivalent to Jordanian Tawjihi certificate
Acknowledged and accepted in Jordanian and International universities (on Competitive basis) and IGCSE/GCE students have a quota for acceptance in the University of Jordan
Currently offered in 27schools and more new schools will be joining us soon
The programme consists of two levels: Ordinary (O-Level) and Advanced (A-Level)
All exams are supervised by the Ministry of Education and the British Council
Exams are offered in three examinations sessions a year
Exams are offered and marked by two British examining boards, Edexcel and Cambridge International Examination (CIE)
Accepted in Jordanian and international universities

Schools are inspected at least once every two years
Teachers receive on going training in most subjects required by schools
Students can choose from a very wide variety of subjects at both levels
Subjects are offered in more than one paper which give the chance for students to distribute their efforts
Students can re-sit papers or subjects to improve their results
The teaching system of the IGCSE/GCE programme builds skills and develops personalities of students
A-Level students are very well prepared for university education
Students with special needs are given particular consideration and special arrangements can be made

Examinations sessions and registration periods

We register students with CIE and Edexcel International for the GCE/IGCSE/GCSE examinations at the Ordinary Level (O-level), the Advanced Supplementary Level (AS-level) and the Advanced Level (A-level) during the following periods:

Edexcel

Selecting subjects for UK universities

You are advised to select the AS/A-level subjects which meet the requirements of the particular university they are applying to. Each university requires different combinations of subjects. AS/A-levels are designed as pre-university courses and in many cases are considered equivalent to first year university. If you wish to study in the United Kingdom, please visit www.educationuk.org or contact our Education Information Officers who are available from 0900 a.m. to 1830 p.m., from Sunday to Wednesday and from 0900 a.m. to 1530 p.m. on Thursdays
