Young Learners Examinations

The Cambridge Young Learners English Tests are fun and motivating for children, and at the same time they give parents an accurate assessment of their child’s English language skills. The exams test how well your child uses English in the four skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening. They are available at three levels:

Level 1: Starters

Level 2: Movers

Level 3: Flyers

Who are these examinations for?

The Cambridge Young Learners Tests are designed for children between the ages of seven and twelve, although the level of the candidates is the important factor, rather than the age. As such they are an appropriate first step towards the University of Cambridge (UCLES) Main Suite of Examinations, which are designed for teenagers and adults.

How can you register for Young Learners Examinations?

Private candidates

To register for any of the ESOL examinations, you should

  • Check our examinations registration dates so as to register on time. This can be obtained from our Customer Services or from our website.
  • Fill in an application form which you can either obtain from our Customer Services or downloaded from our website. To download the application form please click here
  • Submit your application to the Customer Services together with one personal passport-sized photo and a copy of your passport or national ID and pay the exam fee.

School candidates

If you are studying for one of these exams through your school, then you must register through your school and follow their instructions and deadlines.

Sponsored candidate

If you are a candidate sponsored by your employer or any official institute, you have to submit a letter from them stating that they will cover your exam fee. An invoice will be issued upon that.

To download the application form please click here.

Where and when are the examinations available?

These examinations are mainly available through schools in Jordan, and schools can choose to opt into these tests as part of their programme. The examinations can be held at any time during the year, as long as we inform the University of Cambridge at least six weeks before the proposed exam date. The minimum entry requirement is 10 candidates per session.

Do children get a certificate for their examinations?

All candidates who complete their test receive an official certificate. There are no pass/fail results. The certificates focus on what candidates can do, rather than what they can’t do, and give the children credit for having taken part in the test.
