IELTS BAND SCALE
There is no pass or fail mark. Scores are given on a Overall Band Score of one to nine.

A chart of Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) and Academic English Proficiency Tests (IELTS and TOEFL) can be downloaded here.

Different institutions have their own entrance requirements and may require minimum scores in particular modules. In general, universities request an Overall Band Score of 6.0 or 6.5 for entrance to academic courses. You are advised to check the score required with the particular institution to which you are applying.

TEST REPORT
Scores are recorded on an official Test Report Form, showing overall ability, as well as performance in listening, reading, writing and speaking.

The results of your IELTS test will be issued 13 days after you have sat the test.  It is not possible to give test results over the telephone or by e-mail.

Your result has a two-year validity.

Changes in requesting extra TRF ( Test Report Form) after 19th June 2010.
Candidates are permitted to apply for additional IELTS Test Report Form (TRFs) to be sent direct to Receiving Organisations for the two year period in their results remain valid.  As we are no longer operating as an IELTS Centre, this service will be provided by Cambridge ESOL Examinations from 19 June 2010.

You can continue to request for issuing additional TRF to BC Tokyo and Osaka Test Centre until 18 June 2010.  In case you need to notify your IELTS result to institutions, some of institutions are able to check your IELTS results online by notifying them of your TRF number which is listed right hand bottom of your TRF.

Important notice to candidates applying for a UK Visa
The UK Visa application system has been revised as of 31 March 2009 and you may now be required to submit a master copy of the IELTS Test Report Form (TRF) as a supporting document when making a Visa application. The Visa Application Centres ask all applicants to submit the original versions of the required documents in person and do not accept any documents which are sent by post. Therefore, the master copy of your TRF, which is sent to all candidates after sitting the IELTS test, may be necessary for your Visa application. We ask that you keep your master copy safe because it may be required for such purposes. Please note that under IELTS international standards, candidates can receive only one copy of the TRF. Under no circumstances can an extra copy be sent to a candidate. If you need to send additional TRFs to educational institutions for entry application, please make a direct request to your IELTS test centre.

  • When applying for a UK Visa → Take the master copy of your Test Report Form.
  • When applying for entry to educational institutions → Make a request for an extra Test Report Form. The test centre will send your TRF to the institutions directly.
