About this courses
On this course you will
- learn the processes of writing three different kinds of essays: descriptive, chronological and comparison and contrast
- practise pre-writing tasks such as planning and writing an outline for essays.
- learn how to structure essays and link ideas together effectively.
Course Outline
The following points will be covered on the course:
- Using techniques to generate ideas such as brainstorming and using mind- maps
- Writing an outline of an essay
- Developing and improving paragraph and essay structure
- Writing effective introductions and conclusions
- Writing appropriate thesis statements
- Common grammatical and vocabulary errors in essays
- Evaluating essays, offering and receiving feedback as a class
- Using dictionaries/reference books effectively
- Using effective discourse markers to link ideas
Students will write three essays over the course, much of which will be done as homework.
