As in Japan, the UK faces common issues such as bullying, truancy and student security at school. The British Council provides people from both countries with an opportunity to hold meaningful exchanges of opinion and share each other's knowledge and expertise to solve problems in their school.
In conjunction with related organisations from the UK and Japan, the British Council organises symposia, seminars, workshops and exchange visit programmes for educators.
For example, in the area of primary and secondary education, we have focused on themes such as school evaluation techniques, improving scholastic ability, utilising ICT, enhancing security for pupils, strengthening ties between schools, parents and the community, and eradicating bullying.
We provide opportunities for British teachers to visit Japan where teachers from both countries can learn from each other, and in doing so develop better educational partnerships.
We have put together a programme of themes for discussion, such as developing leadership skills for head teachers, student learning strategies, and partnerships between elementary and junior high schools for the improved teaching of foreign languages. These meetings have provided a valuable opportunity for teachers from both countries to study new approaches and pick up new ideas about education.
