A smart investment in your future

Your costs will depend to a large extent on the type of course you follow and which part of the country you live in. Most universities can provide you with general information on the cost of living for their area as well as their tuition and accommodation costs.

Honours undergraduate degree courses in most of the UK take just three years to complete. Some rough examples of tuition costs per year are: Arts £6,250 to £7,650, Science £6,500 to £9,700 and Clinical £6,960 to £18,000.

Most UK taught and research-based Masters courses take just one year. Advanced research programmes, such as a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), can take at least three years full-time. Typical course fees are: Arts £6,750 to £8,200, Science £6,500 to £9,950 and Clinical £6,200 to £17,400. On average, fees for a one year full-time Master of Business Administration (MBA) will cost between £7,500 and £11,500.

For living costs, undergraduates should budget for a nine-month academic year and graduates for a twelve-month. Average living costs (covering accommodation, food, clothing, entertainment, books and daily travel) for an international student are approximately £730 per month in London or £585 per month elsewhere.

HEALTHCARE AND EMPLOYMENT

International students studying full-time for more than six months enjoy all the benefits of the country's National Health Service. This means free consultation with doctors and free hospital care for you and your family. Also, full-time students are able to work part-time up to 20 hours per week without requiring a work visa. Please contact the Visa Section of the British High Commission in Kingston for more information about visas and entry clearance.
