Café Scientifique comes to Rome!

Before the passing of Law 40, believed by many to be the most restrictive in Europe, assisted reproduction in Italy was discussed very little and mostly badly and vaguely.

If infertility is seen as an illness, it is also correct on an ethical level to try to protect the liberty and dignity of the human being, right from the beginning of its life.

But when does life begin? What limits should be applied to scientific research while satisfying the desire of numerous couples to have a child?

The Café Scientifique, in the presence of Suzi Leather, Chair of the UK's Human Embryology and Fertilisation Authority, gave the audience an opportunity to reflect together on these and other questions which pass through our minds when the issue of assisted reproduction is discussed. At the same time asking ourselves where what begins as a desire can be claimed as a "right".
