What do the exams involve?
All exams involve written, oral and listening comprehension tests.
When is the oral exam?
The dates shown in the exam calendar refer only to the written papers.  The oral papers are usually held some days before or after the date of the written exam.  Approximately one month before the date of the exam candidates will receive by post information regarding their candidate number, dates times and location of the exam.  Please note that for logistical reasons the oral exams are often held on a Sunday.
How do I enrol for an exam?

The enrolment forms are available at the British Council, via Manzoni, 38 or online. It is no longer necessary to add the cost of a duty stamp (marca da bollo).

Candidates are reminded that enrolments are valid only for the indicated session.  It is not possible to transfer the enrolment to another session, and it is not possible to refund the enrolment fee after the end of the enrolment period.

There is an additional fee of €50 per candidate for enrolments received up to on month after the end of the enrolment period, and €100 for enrolments received over one month after the end of the enrolment period.

Do I have to follow a course in order to take an exam?
No.  Although we recommend that you follow a course which helps you with exam technique, Cambridge ESOL exams are independent of any course or school.
What books are recommended?
If you are preparing individually for an exam it is always a good idea to follow a book designed specifically for the exam in question.  There is a wide range of books available from various publishers. Practice Tests are particularly useful.

Is it compulsary to prepare for the set texts?
It isn't compulsary to study the proposed texts for First Certificate or Proficiency.  It is an optional extra and can be avoided completely.
How is the oral exam carried out?
The oral papers for KET, PET, FCE, CAE, CPE and BEC are always held in pairs.  Young Learners Tests and IELTS are held individually.
