WHAT IS FAMELAB?
Come and join the new generation of science communicators. FameLab is an international competition of science communication organised by the British Council and the UK Cheltenham Science Festival in over 20 countries in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and South Africa. The competition aims to take science out of the classroom and make it fun, and to encourage young people with a passion for science and technology to share their enthusiasm with the general public.
The winners from each country will compete in the UK FameLab International Final.
The competition is open to anyone working in or studying science and technology. It is not aimed at arts or communication professionals.
Simply fill in the registration form on the FameLab Italy website, choosing the venue you wish to perform at (see calendar below)
At the regional heat you will have a maximum of 3 minutes to give a presentation of a scientific topic which will impress the judges who will be looking for exciting and engaging talks that can be understood by a non-scientific adult audience. The judges may pose questions and give feedback after each presentation. You can only use props which you can carry yourself and that will not require extra time to set up. PowerPoint presentations are not permitted.
If the number of successful contestants is high you may be asked to make another 3 minute talk on a different subject. 2 finalists will be chosen from each venue to go through to the final heat at the Perugia Science Park. The finalists will be expected to give another 3 minute presentation on a different subject.
Remember, to get to the final you will need 3 different 3 minute talks!
The competition is in Italian. The judges will be leading figures from the world of science and media.
finalists win a free masterclass in communication and presentation skills in Italy.
The FINAL WINNER will represent Italy at the FameLab International Final (The Times Cheltenham Science Festival in June 2012).
