Born in Berlin in 1922, Lucian Freud moved to England with his family in 1933. Along with his friend Francis Bacon, he rose to prominence in London in the 1950s and has lived and worked in the city ever since. Freud is regarded as one of the leading figurative artists working today. The Venetian Civic Museums together with the British Council present an exhibition showing the works of this English artist at the Correr Museum, the exhibition displays 85 pieces of work, including some specifically created for the occasion. Since receiving the Purchase Prize from the Arts Council of Great Britain in 1951 for his Interior in Paddington, exhibited as part of the Festival of Britain, Freud has built up a formidable reputation as one of the most powerful contemporary figurative painters.
