JAMIE FOBERT
POINT OF VIEW

The British School at Rome hosts "Point of View", Jamie Fobert's first public lecture and exhibition in Italy. Fobert was born in Canada and moved to London in the late 1980's where he worked for David Chipperfield before establishing his own practice. His work is subtly sculptural; he has specialized in the creation of art spaces, although his practice - Jamie Fobert Architects - has acquired a reputation for innovative and inspiring work which includes residential, commercial and cultural projects all over the world.
Point of View is an exhibition made up of two components:
"Model Wall", which will focus on the extensions to Tate St Ives and to Kettle's Yard, Cambridge. Fobert has conceived a highly original method of showing the work. Through the use of special lenses, the viewer will have the sensation of exploring the buildings at full scale.
"Light Box Strip" will present the breadth of  work completed in the 10 years since the practice's inception. The viewer will be able to examine the ideas which guide Jamie's commercial and domestic projects and also inform the design on the art spaces.
We should move away from the cult of the iconic building, where every building attempts to out-Guggenheim the next, and work towards buildings that create a better city fabric while responding to the daily lives of its inhabitants.
