Founded in 1983 by Simon McBurney, Annabel Arden, and Marcello Magni, Complicite is a constantly evolving ensemble of performers and collaborators, now led by Artistic Director Simon McBurney. Complicite's work has ranged from entirely devised work to theatrical adaptations and revivals of classic texts. This company's philosophy is collaboration, a collaboration between individuals to establish an ensemble with a common physical and imaginative language. Complicite continuously researches and trains through exploratory workshops. This long process of experimentation has resulted in some of their most successful, ground-breaking productions. At the Teatro Strehler, they will present Measure for Measure, wickedly comic, unbearably raw and strangely tender: it is one of Shakespeare's most unpredictable and least classifiable dramas. “No doubt about it, Simon McBurney's production is brilliant. But this National Theatre-Complicité joint venture, played at ferocious pace for an uninterrupted 135 minutes, has the faintly merciless virtuosity of an Orson Welles Shakespeare movie and leaves your senses feeling similarly bombarded.” (The Guardian) “Never has Measure for Measure been so disturbing…Suddenly the play looks brutal, contradictory, unresolved: barbaric and Christian and modern” (The Observer) Dates: 24-27 November 2005 Venue: Milan Teatro Strehler, Largo Greppi, 1 Information: tel. 02 72333222
