I needed to study English and a friend of mine told me that The British Council  offered English courses at competitive prices. The following week, I made up my mind and joined The British Council. In October 2001 I was an absolute beginner and I was worried about the method and the teachers. Now I am not able to consider studying English in Italy without the British Council.
Basically I appreciate the qualified teaching staff, the large number of videos which you can borrow and the Self Access Centre where, to be honest, I don't spend much time to improve my listening skills. I like the informal atmosphere and the polite administration staff. I love reading every sort of prospectus and brochure and The British Council certainly doesn't skimp on providing these.
...I think British Council is the best place to learn English. I strongly recommend it.
