You'll find flashcards for food, fruit and vegetables on LearnEnglish Kids. You can use these to practise the names of common foodstuffs and also to practise 'I like...', 'I don't like...' and 'Do you like...?'
You'll find the flashcards here: http://www.britishcouncil.org/kids-flashcards |
Print and cut out the flashcards. They'll last longer if you can glue them onto card or laminate them. |
Draw a smiley face on a piece of paper, and a sad face on another piece of paper. Put these on a table or on the floor. |
Show a card to you child. Ask 'Do you like (apples)? Teach your child to say 'Yes' or 'Yes, I do.' (and then put the card on the smiley face) or 'No' or 'No, I don't.' (and then put the card on the sad face). |
Repeat this with more of the cards. Don't too many cards if all of the words are new for your child, or if they begin to get bored. |
When you have some cards on the fsmiley and sad faces teach your child to say 'I like (apples)' and 'I don't like (pizza).' |
Your child can now ask you 'Do you like (pizza)?' and you can repeat the activity. |
If your child enjoys this activity you can add more phrases 'I hate...' or 'I love...'. or you could extend the lists of foodstuffs that your child likes and dislikes. You could even make more flashcards. of your child's favourite foods. |
