On August 2, 1100, King William II of England (known as William Rufus or the Red King) was out hunting with his friend Walter Tyrrel. The King's last words, on spotting a deer, were supposedly: "Shoot, Walter, shoot; as if it were the devil". Walter shot, but the arrow ricocheted off a tree, struck the King in the eye, and killed him. Whether the arrow was a stray shot or premeditated murder is still under debate. Read more

It is very strange, and very melancholy, that the paucity of human pleasures should persuade us ever to call hunting one of them. (Samuel Johnson) It isn't mere convention. Everyone can see that the people who hunt are the right people and the people who don't are the wrong ones. (George Bernard Shaw in Heartbreak House) Man is the hunter; woman is his game:/ The sleek and shining creatures of the chase,/ We hunt them for the beauty of their skins. (Alfred, Lord Tennyson) People never lie so much as after a hunt, during a war or before an election. (Otto von Bismarck)

A pangram is a sentence containing all the letters of the alphabet. All you need is a bit of imagination to seem that the following pangrams are all about hunting:
The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dogs.
The fox was cornered by the pack of hounds and so turned around and leapt over the lazy dogs to escape!
Blowzy red vixens fight for a quick jump.
These female foxes were obviously blowzy (=dishevelled) because they were cornered by the pack of hounds. There was only time for one of them to escape by jumping quickly, and so they fought each other to be that one).
Brick quiz whangs jumpy veldt fox.
This fox from the grasslands of Africa couldn’t believe that it was being hunted with bricks. But before it could ask itself what was going on, one of the bricks hit it.
Fjord-buck zags whelm qvint pyx = Male deer frequenting the banks of a fjord, moving in a somewhat zigzag course, overturn a box with a capacity of 77.16 grams.
The deer was obviously moving in a zigzag course to escape the shots of hunters. The box that it overturned was almost certainly full of shotgun cartridges.
Veldt jynx grimps waqf zho buck = A wryneck woodpecker from the grasslands of Africa climbs up the side of a male bovid which is grazing on sacred Muslim-owned land.
The woodpecker obviously climbed up the side of the bovid (an animal such as a cow, sheep, goat or buffalo) because it mistakenly thought that this would afford it protection from hunters. Unfortunately, cows are sacred to Hindus, not Muslims). Source of pangrams: Word Oddities
The Hunt by Harriet Prescott Spofford
Wild stream the clouds, and the fresh wind is singing, Red is the dawn, and the world white with rime,— Music, O music! The hunter’s horn ringing! Over the hilltop the mounted men climb.
Flashing of scarlet, and glitter, and jingle, The deep bay, the rhythm of hoof and of cry,— Echo, O echo! The winds rush and mingle! Halloo, view halloo! And the Hunt has swept by.
Stay! All the morning is hushed and is sober, Bare is the hilltop and sad as its wont,— Out of the ghost of a long-dead October Blows as the dust blows the ghost of the Hunt!
Hunt in every jungle, for there is wisdom and good hunting in all of them. (African) Noise and hunting don't go together. (African) Until the lions have their historians, tales of the hunt shall always glorify the hunter. (African) The hunt is like a dance for men, for the women the dance is the hunt. (Austrian The hunter who always comes home with meat is a thief. (Bantu) A dog in a kennel barks at his fleas -- a hunting dog does not feel them. (Chinese) Source: Creative Proverbs
