Jason Lee Johnson tells us how it all started: "I was invited to give a lecture at the International Atherosclerosis Society meeting held in Rome, Italy last year. The talk incorporated data on a novel mouse model of atherosclerotic plaque rupture and the involvement of a class of enzymes, the matrix metalloproteinases. Cinzia Parolini and her colleagues were in the audience and had previously viewed an interest in the mouse model by email. We therefore met over coffee after the session and began discussions on a possible collaboration.
