7th February 2012 marked the 200 year anniversary of Charles Dickens’ birth. The British Council Israel is running a series of workshops and events and is offering resources to commemorate the bicentennial of one of Britain's most prolific authors.
Bringing Dickens to Life on Stage
We were honoured to host ELT legend Jeremy Harmer and world-renowned violinist Steve Bingham in Israel from 11th to 15th February to give lectures and to perform a special musical, theatrical show incorporating some of Dickens’s most famous works. View a previous performance at a Touchable Dreams seminar. Read about what Jeremy Harmer thought of his time in Israel on his blog.
School visits
Creative and interactive school visits being offered to schools and students all over the country to educate them about the author's life and works are proving to be a great success. If you would like us to hold a visit at your school, contact Jen for more information.
Workshops for Teachers
We are offering two exciting new workshops for teachers:
'What the Dickens?!' - an overview of Dickens’ life and ELT resources |
Dickens Museum E-tivity - trains teachers how to use a Wiki and involves students in our Dickens Museum e-tivity |
ELT resources
The TeachingEnglish website has ready-to-go lesson plans and a series of short films about famous Dickens’ heroes and villains, such as Oliver Twist and Scrooge.
We are also giving away free Dickens resource packs (including Oliver Twist DVD and materials) to schools that organise a Dickens event to mark the author’s big day. So get creative! Organise a Victorian party, a Dickens debate, a film screening or a play and let us know what you’re doing.
