The aims of the TeachingEnglish Blogathon were to connect English Language educators in the wider Europe region, providing them with a forum to exchange ideas and experiences from the classroom as a way to aid their continuing professional development. It also gave participants an opportunity to hone their blogging skills and was thus an incentive to introduce technology into teachers’ repository of skills.
Those who held fast in the race were rewarded by their fellow participants in the way of anecdotal stories, teaching advice and links, as well as lesson plans and inspirational ideas for the classroom. One eager participant even contributed poems and songs on the competition itself!
The TeachingEnglish Blogathon also hosted guest bloggers, including ELT professionals who gave words of encouragement to the participants.
A survey sent by the British Council Israel to Israeli Blogathon participants following the conclusion of the competition, recorded positive feedback and productive suggestions for future Blogathon competitions. One teacher commented on the “great diversity” of the blog posts, adding, “imagine what we could do if we got together as a group.”
