Who is eligible to compete in the FameLab competition?

To enter FameLab you must have a first degree in science and be under 36 years old.
The competition is open to postgraduate students, early to mid career scientists, researchers and anyone working in the fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, medicine.

What happens at the competitions?

The first round of the competition takes place in the first half of the day.  You will have a maximum of three minutes to give a presentation which will impress the judges who will be looking for exciting and engaging talks that can be understood by a non-scientific adult audience. The judges will pose questions and give feedback after each presentation. You can only use props which you can carry yourself and that won’t require extra time to set up. PowerPoint presentations are not permitted. The competition is in Hebrew.
Successful first round contestants will go on to compete in the second round, later the same day, to present another three minute talk on a different subject in front of a public audience.  Three finalists will be chosen to go through to the finals.
The nine finalists will participate in a two day masterclass on the subject of science communication.

The finals will take place at the Hemda Centre for Science Education in Tel Aviv and finalists will give another three minute presentation on a different contemporary science topic.

Remember, to get to the final, you will need three different three minute talks!  We strongly advise that one of these should focus on your own research.

24 March, Technion, Haifa first round 10:00-16:00  second round, 19:00 – 21:00  

30 March, Hemda Centre, Tel Aviv first round 10:00-16:00  second round 19:30-21:00

2 April, Bloomfield Science Museum Jerusalem first round 10:00-16:00  second round, 19:00 – 21:00  

22-23 April, 2 day masterclass for the nine finalists 10:00 – 17:00

4 May, Hemda Centre, FINAL 19:00 – 21:00

Who are the judges?

There will be three or four leading figures from the world of science and media at each of the local competitions.

What are the prizes?

All Finalists win a free masterclass in communication and presentation skills, and the Israel national winner receives a free trip to the UK Science Festival in June.
