The enclosed list of scholarships are open to Israeli candidates. We provide information about all the scholarships that we are aware of that are open to Israelis. For further information you are advised to check the websites of individual institutions and refer to the Education UK scholarship search.

British Academy Visiting Fellowships are open to early-career scholars from overseas to apply directly to the Academy, in conjunction with their UK hosts, for research visits to the UK of at least two months. The main purpose of the visit should be to enable the visitor to pursue research in the humanities and social sciences. Funds have been earmarked for scholars from the Middle East, including Israel.

BA-ESRC Visiting Fellowships for South Asia and the Middle East are open to early career researchers in any branch of the humanities or social sciences, who, in conjunction with a UK host academic, can apply to spend at least two months undertaking a clearly specified research project in the United Kingdom. Applicants must be of postdoctoral or equivalent status.

The Centre for Jewish-Christian Relations in Cambridge (CJCR) administers scholarships for the Master of Studies (MSt) degree in the study of Jewish-Christian Relations at the University of Cambridge.

The Clore Bezalel Scholarship is awarded biennially to a Bezalel graduate who wishes to follow an MA at the College.  You can find more information from the Royal College of Art or from Bezalel.

The Daniel Turnberg UK/Middle East Travel Fellowship Scheme 2009/2010
The fellowship aims to encourage and foster collaborations between medical researchers in the UK and the Middle East. It provides opportunities for short-term exchange of researchers. Applications should be made through the candidate’s Heads of Department who will act as sponsor for the applicant. The applicant should contact and obtain written support from the institution that they hope to visit prior to submitting their application. Click here for additional information. Erasmus Mundus is a co-operation and mobility programme of the European Commission in the field of higher education which promotes the European Union as a worldwide centre of excellence in learning. Erasmus Mundus scholarships are available for selected Masters courses throughout Europe. A limited number of scholarships are available for third-country (non European) nationals with excellent academic records.

The International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation and Political Violence (ICSR) - Atkins Fellowship offers young leaders from Israel and the Arab world the opportunity to come to develop their ideas on how to further peace and understanding in the Middle East in a neutral political environment . Atkins Fellows are based at the ICSR offices at King's College London.

The Israeli Scholarship, London School of Economics is available for one Israeli starting an undergraduate programme at LSE For more information check their website.

Karim Rida Said Foundation (KRSF) offers scholarships to Iraqi, Jordanian, Lebanese, Palestinian (including Palestinians living in Israel) and Syrian citizens for Masters Studies or postgraduate training at UK universities. Scholarships can be full or partial. Application forms are also available from the British Council in Nazareth. The application deadline is 31 January when the forms must reach the British Council in Nazareth. There are two exceptions

-University of Oxford International Office, University Offices, Wellington Square, Oxford, OX1 2JD, UK by 17 March (for most courses but please check the Oxford University prospectus)

LEO BAECK (LONDON) LODGE B’NAI B’RITH
Grants are given for postgraduate and postdoc studies or research, with an emphasis on those engaged in physical/environmental/life sciences, mathematics and computing, medicine, technology and engineering, leading to a recognised degree at a UK university.
The total annual distribution is approximately £50,000; a major award is approximately £3000 and there are some minor awards depending on the financial circumstances of the applicant.  
Applications for awards must be received by 31 January of the year in which the applicant wishes to study and evidence of an application to or acceptance by the institution must be produced when applying for a grant.

Lord Zuckerman Studentships: Doctor of Philosophy. The School of Environmental Sciences at the University of East Anglia (Norwich) welcomes applications from candidates in Israel and Eastern Europe for the Lord Zuckerman Studentship.  Successful applicants will be registered for the degree of PhD.

Middlesex University invites applicants from Israeli students. Applicants are eligible to apply for a discount for any programme at Middlesex University in London. Discounts of between 10% and 20% are available. Entry requirements include IELTS or TOEFL and for postgraduate applicants the equivalent of second class honours degree. Art, Design and Performing Arts students need to have a 4-year Diploma and transcript from their college. Further information about the scholarship is available from Lesley Marks

The Newton International Fellowships run by The British Academy, The Royal Academy of Engineering and the Royal Society is a new global scheme, open to researchers from any country to undertake postdoctoral research in the UK. The two-year Fellowships cover the broad range of the natural and social sciences, engineering and the humanities. Olive Tree Educational Trust supports outstanding young Israelis and Palestinians during their undergraduate studies and aims to create a community of skilled, confident and effective leaders, professionals and 'change agents' in their communities to mutual benefit. Applicants must be 20 – 27 years old on enrolment. The project runs every two years and successful applicants undertake their studies at City University, London.

Overseas Research Student Awards Scheme (ORSAS) offers international postgraduate students the opportunity to carry out a broad range of research at well-established UK academic institutions of worldwide recognition. ORSAS awards provide funding to pay the difference between the international student tuition fees and the home/EU student tuition fees.

OSI/FCO Chevening/ University of Edinburgh Scholarships provide opportunities for independent postgraduate masters study in the United Kingdom for students who have demonstrated both academic excellence and the potential to become leaders, decision-makers and opinion formers in their own country. The scholarship is open to Palestinian Arab citizens of Israel.

OSI/Chevening/University of Essex Scholarships for Masters Degrees in Human Rights enables suitably qualified students from eligible countries to pursue taught postgraduate programmes within the Human Rights Centre at the University of Essex. The two programmes offered are the MA in the Theory and Practice of Human Rights and the LLM in International Human Rights Law. The scholarship is open to Palestinian Arab citizens of Israel.

Researcher Exchange Programme is a British Council initiative that aims to promote the development of scientific co-operation and contacts between the UK and other countries. The awards support new links between early stage researchers in the UK and other countries

Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at Oxford University offer a practical form of professional assistance to established and mid-career journalists. Its purpose is to allow journalists to tackle subjects in greater depth than is possible under deadline pressure. Dates of entry are agreed with the Director of Studies. Fellowships may be for three, six or nine months covering one or two terms or a full academic year respectively. Deadline Friday 30 January 2009 at 12.00 GMT

The Rothschild Foundation (Yad Hanadiv) foundation offers the following awards:

Rothschild Fellowships are one year awards for advanced study or research abroad for doctoral and postdoctoral candidates. Both humanities and scientific subjects are considered. Awards cover airfares, tuition fees, living expenses and an allowance for family members. Candidates who are already studying abroad, are not eligible for these fellowships.

Please contact the Academic Secretariat of the Israeli University to which you are affiliated for application forms and for further details, particularly the application deadline, which is set by each individual university.

Hanadiv Fellowships are one year awards, (with the possibility of an extension), for outstanding scholars in European and Western history who are in the final stages of work on a doctoral dissertation and for those with a Ph.D. who do not hold tenure at an institution of higher learning.

The application form and supporting documents must be typed in English. Candidates should send one copy of an English language summary of their dissertation and arrange for two letters of recommendation. The letters of recommendation should be regarded as confidential and submitted by the referees to Yad Hanadiv. Application forms will be available during November 2008. The Shell Centenary Scholarship Fund offers postgraduate students from developing countries the opportunity to study in the UK at partner universities - University of Cambridge, University of Durham, University of Edinburgh, Imperial College London, University of Leeds, the University of Oxford, and University College London. These universities also contribute to the funding of scholarships. Applications are open to Israelis, applicants are normally expected to be less than 35.

UK/Middle East Exchange Fellowships
The UK/Middle East Travel Fellowships exchange scheme was developed in partnership with the Daniel Turnberg Trust. The scheme provides opportunities for short-term exchange of medical researchers between the UK and the Middle East. The aim of the scheme is to provide opportunities to gain further research experience, learn new techniques and foster collaboration between scientists. Grants will be awarded to early and mid career medical researchers and bioscientists from the UK to spend time in laboratories and hospitals in Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon and the Palestinian Territories, and for researchers in those countries to come to the UK. The grant will cover travel expenses and a subsistence allowance for a period of up to four weeks. The scheme is administered by the Academy of Medical Sciences and all correspondence should be directed to them. The deadline for receipt of completed applications is 9th January 2009. Weidenfeld Institute for Strategic Dialogue provides financial support for the leaders of tomorrow in their graduate studies has been announced by Oxford University and the Weidenfeld Institute for Strategic Dialogue, London.  Scholarships can be awarded to support any graduate course of study offered by the University, however preference may be given to candidates in subjects for which other courses of funding are either not available or in short supply.

Wingate Scholarships – The Harold Hyam Wingate Foundation awarded to individuals of great potential or proven excellence who need financial support to undertake pioneering or original work of intellectual, scientific, artistic, social or environmental value, and to outstandingly talented musicians for advanced training. They are designed to help with the costs of a specific project which may last up to 3 years. Applicants must be living in the British Isles during the period of application.

Wolfson College Press Fellowship, University of Cambridge brings talented journalists in mid-career to Cambridge for a period of between 10 and 13 weeks to research a project of their own choosing under academic supervision. The scholarship is open to journalists in any medium and from any country who are in mid-career, typically between the ages of 28 and 45.
