The English Effect has arrived! |
The biggest English exhibition for the British Council in 20 years went up in the gallery space in the British Council office in London at the end of March. Alongside The English Effect exhibition, the UK will be holding a season of international events and activities with lots of opportunities to get involved!

The British Council is running a competition on The English Effect website, where people can send in 20 second videos of themselves talking about what English means to them with a chance to win a tablet! Winners of Teaching English Blogathon 2013 |
The moment has arrived to announce our Teaching English Blogathon winners! This online event gave international English teachers a unique opportunity to network with other teaching professionals from around the world and to share good practice in ELT.
Congratulations to our regional winners Sanja Bozinovic, Addeh Hovassapian and Branka Segvic who will be attending the 47th Annual IATEFL Conference and Exhibition taking place in the UK in April!
Our four regional runners-up (in no particular order) who have won an I-pad and a Teacher Training Journal subscription are: Evgeniya Zimina, Gayane Shabunts, Alenka Miljevic and Yildiz Terzioglu.
A special congratulations goes to our Israeli winner Sharona Attiya who has won a Ipad Mini! Thank you to all those who took part for your energy and dedication. It was difficult to choose winners as you all inspired us with a wonderful exchange of ideas, knowledge and concerns regarding ELT throughout the blogging adventure. ELT Professionals Gala Film Screening |
On 6 February, over 150 Israeli English Language Teaching professionals including Ministry of Education Inspectorate, enjoyed an evening of entertainment at the Holon Cinematheque, sponsored by the British Council and scholastic publishers UPP, as part of the British Film Festival 2013. Guests were treated to a sumptuous reception followed by a performance by Israeli music star Susie Miller, better known as ‘Susie Surprise’, and a screening of the film, ‘The First Grader’. A special mention went to the winners of the British Council’s Global Glogs competition who presented their Glogs at the event. The competition gave students from the British Council Connecting Classrooms programme the opportunity to express their thoughts and ideas on "global citizenship" through a digital poster made on Glogster. First prize went to the students from Atid Lod High School for Sciences; second prize to the students from Brenner High School, Petach Tikva; third prize to the students from Gymnasia Realit Mekif Alef School, Rishon L’Zion and a special commendation prize went to the students from Sharet School, Netanya.

British Council Israel Pre-Conference Event and Summer ETAI Conference 2012 |
From 2-4 July 2012, the British Council Israel together with our partners at ETAI (English Teachers Association in Israel) ran a hugely
successful pre-conference event (PCE) on “Integrating Technologies into ELT” followed by the Annual Summer ETAI Conference “Keeping an Open Mind”. The events were attended by special guest speaker from the UK and Learning Technologies expert Gavin Dudeney, who gave a number of fascinating keynote speeches and presentations on the use of teaching tools in the digital age.
