Grants are given for postgraduate studies or research, with an emphasis on those engaged in science, leading to a recognised degree of an UK university. The total distribution per annum is approximately £50,000. A major award is approximately £3000 and there are some minor awards depending on the financial circumstances of the applicant. The UK/Middle East Travel Fellowships exchange scheme was developed in partnership with the Daniel Turnberg Trust. The scheme provides opportunities for short-term exchange of medical researchers between the UK and the Middle East. The aim of the scheme is to provide opportunities to gain further research experience, learn new techniques and foster collaboration between scientists. Grants will be awarded to early and mid career medical researchers and bioscientists from the UK to spend time in laboratories and hospitals in Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon and the Palestinian Territories, and for researchers in those countries to come to the UK. The grant will cover travel expenses and a subsistence allowance for a period of up to four weeks. The scholarship is open to journalists in any medium and from any country who are in mid-career, typically between the ages of 28 and 45.
