Chevening E-Form Application Guidelines

These notes apply to all the Chevening Scholarship schemes advertised on our website

The Chevening awards are intended for outstanding graduates and young professionals with the potential to rise to senior and influential positions in the public or private sector, and who will be in a position to contribute to Israel’s social, economic and political future

The Selection Board looks for candidates who are highly motivated, ambitious and able to demonstrate leadership potential, as well as attaining academic excellence

1. Please go to the web link: https://www.chevening.fco.gov.uk/CheveningApplications/CA_Start.aspx
Please note that the site is designed for use with Microsoft IE 5.5 or above

2. Click on Please read these notes before proceeding. After reading, please click continue

3. When you return to the main page, please click on the Application Conditions to read the conditions and press continue

4. When you return to the main page and after reading the terms and conditions, type your full name and click on I accept the terms and conditions and click continue

5. If you are a new user, you will need to Register by entering your Full name (The Name field is case sensitive) and you will need to create your own password and write it in Type your password’ and re-confirm it by writing it in the line below beside Confirm password
Following successful registration, you will be directed to the Log in page

6. On the Log In page, please re-enter your name and password and then press Log in and then click OK

7. After logging in, you will need to enter your details including mandatory fields

8. Scholarships are awarded to Israeli nationals only. If you have dual nationality, please state both

9. On the right hand side of the page click Save to save the details you have entered

10. Then click on Contact Details to enter your address and contact details. You will need to enter your home address, work address, contact address and next of kin address. Whenever you complete each of them click on Save. If you have completed all fields on this screen click the OK button to save the information and return to Applicant Details

11. Then click on Current situation and answer the questions on that page. Click on Save and then OK to return to Applicant Details

12. Then move to the Education Information and click on Academic background to enter all your academic qualifications obtained since completing your secondary education, stating the institutions attended, the main subjects of study and when the main courses started and finished. Start with the most recent then the older.
Whenever you finish a qualification and you want to add a new one, click on Add New Details. To save your last qualification entered, click Add new details and click OK to return to the main page

13. Then move to the Professional Background to list all positions and your employments details since you completed your university education. Start with the most recent. Whenever you finish a qualification and you want to add a new one, click on Add New Details. To save your last qualification entered click Add new details and then click OK to return to the main page

14. Then move to the Proposed Course and complete Page 1 and click OK , then complete Page 2 then click OK and finally Page 3 then click OK to return to the main page. (You can use the website: www.educationuk.org to search or find a specific course at UK universities)

15. Then move to Other information and enter the names and details of 2 referees. Then click OK to return to the main page

16. Then move to And Finally which includes the Personal Statement and Research proposal sections. Please state in not more than 1000 words in the space provided, why you wish to study in the UK, describe your reasons for applying for the course you wish to follow and explain how it will help you with the work you expect to do on your return to your home country; describe your reasons for applying for the course you wish to follow and explain how it will help you with the work you expect to do on your return to your home country, you should include an outline of your intended profession, your ambitions and your career plan. Describe also, your most outstanding non-academic achievement involving other people where you demonstrated leadership potential (you may describe an extra curricular/sport/community/professional activity or an assignment

17. If you are seeking to undertake research please also give details of your research proposals in not more than 2,000 words in the space provided under Research Proposal. Then click OK to return to the main page

18. Finally, if you have completed all fields and all sub-screens click the Submit button to send your application. Then you will get a page that informs you that your application has been submitted

19. Once your application has been submitted, you will not be able to make any amendments

20. You will later on and after the deadline get an automatic e-mail to confirm receipt of your application together with a unique application reference number sent to your e-mail account

General Information

1. English Language Requirements: IELTS is not a criterion for selection for interview, but it is helpful to know the level of English if an applicant is fortunate enough to be called for interview. IELTS is a requirement for entry into all UK universities

2. Candidates called for an interview for the Chevening- UCL Israel Alumni - Chaim Herzog Award must have an IELTS score of 7. For more information regarding the IELTS please call our Customer Services 03 6113600 or check our website

Application process

1. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) makes the final decision on applications for Chevening scholarships. Candidates are assessed on academic merit; achievements to date both in and outside of the academic and workplace areas; referees’ letters; proposed area of study and future career in line with the FCO priority areas; leadership potential and potential to further strengthen the UK-Israel bilateral relationship

2. Short-listed candidates should be available for interview towards the end of January and February in Israel

Candidates who are short listed for interview will be invited to attend the interview boards, which meet towards the end of January or February 2009. Interviews for the Lord Goodman Award usually take place in early March

3. References may be requested from the referees of candidates who are successful at the first selection stage. Candidates will also be required to bring the original reference letters and qualification certificates to the interview

4. After interviews with the short-listed candidates are held, successful applicants will be notified

The Board’s decision is final and confidential and no appeals are considered. The British Council or British Embassy is unable to enter into any communications on any of the Selection Board’s decisions
