supporting visual arts

In 2008 and 2009 we supported different visual artists, exhibitions and art conferences. We enable British artists, curators and scholars to present their work to the Israeli public and help Israeli art professionals reach the UK. Most of these projects are supported by BI ARTS  which introduces audiences in both countries to the latest developments in the art world and contributes to artists’ professional development. Our Grants to Artists scheme also supports British artists exhibiting overseas.

Steve McQueen’s video art works in Israel’s museums
As part of our British Season 2009  two separate exhibitions are hosting works by renowned British artists Steve McQueen as part of the British Season. Winner of the prestigious Turner Prize in 1999 and selected to represent Britain at the 2009 Venice Biennale, McQueen's powerful and emotive work challenges and inspires audiences to think about the world we live in.

Israeli photographer Vardi Kahana exhibits in London
We also assist Israeli artists who wish to present their work in the UK through our BI ARTS programme. In January 2009 we supported photographer Vardi Kahana’s participation in a discussion about her work at the opening of her exhibition at the Artsdepot’s Apthorp Gallery, London. Sprawling four generations, Vardi Kahana’s photographic exhibition One Family is both an exploration of the meaning of the family unit in today’s society and a comment on the Jewish Israeli narrative.
