We support a wide variety of theatre collaborations between the UK and Israel. Through productions, staged readings and panel discussions we introduce audiences in both countries to inspiring theatre works. Most of these projects are supported by BI ARTS
This year we paid tribute to the extraordinary life and work of Harold Pinter, as part of our British Season 2009A unique collaboration with the Habima and Tmuna theatres will focus on Pinter’s distinctive contribution to world theatre.
Habima and the Royal National Theatre of London collaborated in an exchange of political plays featuring Israeli and British playwrights between October 2007 and March 2008. In October, Israeli works featured in staged readings in English in London, and British works were performed in translation at Habima in March. We worked with Habima and the Royal National Theatre to develop a programme of workshops, events and seminars both in London and in Israel and brought a number of the playwrights involved together. This was a great opportunity to raise the profile of contemporary theatre of both countries and to help emerging playwrights in the early stages of an international career. The project has led to some lasting links between the two institutions and between some of the playwrights featured in the programme.
For the first time in recent years, a Cameri Theatre production was invited to perform in London in January and February. Supported by BI ARTS, nine actors from the original cast of Plonter together with Director Yael Ronen traveled to the Barbican to perform and participate in post-performance audience discussions as part of the Barbican International Theatre Event, BITE09.
