Our work in Iraq

Our links with Iraq and its great tradition of culture, science and academic achievement go back a long way and have been very strong - we first opened in Iraq in 1940 - and we are delighted to be renewing them now.

Education is the focus of our re-engagement with Iraq, working in partnership with Iraqi institutions and individuals to reconnect Iraq with the international educational community and sharing the UK’s experience to help design Iraqi solutions to Iraq’s challenges.

We are working with the education ministries and other institutions to set up development networks for ELT professionals
We are re-connecting senior Iraqi and UK academics, facilitating attendance by Iraqi academics at training and networking events in the UK, and enabling Iraqi academics to enrol on postgraduate courses
We are co-ordinating the transport of books and materials donated by UK organisations to Iraqi universities.
In partnership with BBC World Service Trust, we have provided training for Iraqi media professionals.
We are working with British Museum, British School of Archaeology and others to rebuild partnerships to safeguard Iraq’s unique cultural heritage.
