A wide range of UK educational institutions offer scholarships to International students, who wish to study in the UK. Some universities and colleges however, such as the Universities of Sheffield, Queen Mary and Nottingham are currently providing funding for Iranian students to pursue their degrees at graduate level. The British Academy (BA) the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the Economic and Social Research Council will shortly announce a second call for applications for their joint Visiting Fellowships for South Asia and the Middle East. The fellowships aim to attract early career researchers in any branch of the humanities or social sciences, who, in conjunction with a UK host academic, can apply to spend at least two months undertaking a clearly specified research project in the United Kingdom. Applicants must be of postdoctoral or equivalent status. They must also be ordinarily resident in Iran. The maximum grant under this scheme is £15,000 at Full Economic Cost (FEC). The BA/AHRC/ESRC will contribute 80% of the FEC of the visit, up to a maximum of £12,000. The British Academy is pleased to announce a call for applications under this year's round of its Visiting Fellowship scheme. The scheme is intended to enable early-career overseas postdoctoral academics to come to the UK for at least two months in order to carry out research in a British institution, in conjunction with a UK academic. The scheme is open to application by any scholar from outside the UK who has obtained a PhD after January 2002, or who is of equivalent status. Application must be made with a UK-based academic sponsor whose home institution is willing to host the visit (UK institutions can apply to the Academy for the full economic cost of hosting the visiting scholar). The closing date for applications is 23 November, for visits to take place after 1 May 2008. Results of the competition will be announced in late March 2008.
