The Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board (PLAB) Test is designed to assess your knowledge and skills, and your ability to work safely in your first appointment as a senior house officer in a UK hospital.
Before you travel to the UK to undertake your training, you'll need to first obtain your limited registration from the General Medical Council (GMC) in the UK. This registration allows you to begin supervised employment in educationally-approved training posts in the UK and is necessary to ensure you receive proper training.
The test is split into two parts.
The first part consists of a single computer markable paper. Please check the GMC website for test centres.
Can only be taken in the UK. The GMC website has details of dates and test centres. The second part consists of a fourteen-station objective structured clinical exam (OSCE). This tests both clinical and communication skills.
You may not enter second part until you have passed the first part. You must also take the second part within two years of having passed the first.
For more information visit the GMC website and view the sections on registration.
